Women with lupus more prone to abnormal pap smears

Researchers from the Chinese University of Hong Kong advise women with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) to have yearly pap smears because they have found that women with SLE are three more likely to have abnormal pap smears than healthy women. The risk of an abnormal pap smear was also increased by having had a STD, HPV infection, more than 4 sexual partners, early start of sexual activity and uneducated.
