Glossary for Open Wound

  • Accident or injury conditions: Medical conditions caused by accidents or physical injuries.
  • Botulism food poisoning: Extremely dangerous food poisoning requiring medical attention, but not always recognized because of its non-abdominal symptoms.
  • Burns: Injury from burns and scalds.
  • Fractured Lower Leg: A fracture to one of the bones of the lower leg
  • Fractured femur: A fracture that occurs in the femur of the leg
  • Muscle conditions: Any condition that affects the muscles of the body
  • Open Wound: Any wound that affects the skin and is open to the outside environment
  • Pain conditions: Diseases characterized by pain and pain-like symptoms.
  • Physical conditions: Any condition that physically affects an individual
  • Skin conditions: Any condition that affects the skin
  • Tetanus: A disease caused by chemicals which are produced by a bacterium (clostridium tetani) and are toxic to the nerves. The infection usually occurs when the bacteria enter the body through a deep wound - these bacteria are anaerobic and hence don't need oxygen to survive.
  • Vibrio vulnificus: Bacteria commonly infecting oysters and seafood.
