Iliac Crest: The iliac crest is the uppermost section of the ala of the ilium of the bony pelvis. The iliac crest creates a rounded spine-like ridge at the top of the bony pelvis that provides attachments and origins for many muscles. These include the obliquus internus abdominis, transversus abdominis, obliquus externus abdominis, latissimus dorsi, quadratus lumborum, sacrospinalis, and iliacus
The iliac crest also contains a large amount of bone marrow. Conditions that can afflict the iliac crest include Paget's disease of bone, arthritis, trauma, osteomyelitis, cancer, inflammation and fracture.
