Left Superficial Temporal Artery: The left superficial temporal artery is a major systemic artery that branches off from the left external carotid artery. The left superficial temporal artery supplies vital oxygenated blood and nutrients to the scalp. Blood flows from the left ventricle of the heart into the ascending aorta and aortic arch then into the left common carotid artery, the left external carotid artery and then into the left superficial temporal artery.
Conditions that can afflict the left superficial temporal artery include diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, occlusion, aneurysm, thrombosis, atherosclerosis, and trauma.
