Pons : part of the central nervous system lying between the medulla oblongata and the mesencephalon, ventral to the cerebellum, and consisting of a pars dorsalis and a pars ventralis.

Pons: The pons is an area of the brain and a part of the brain stem. The pons is located anterior to the medulla. The pons contains two respiratory centers that work in conjunction with the medulla to create a normal breathing rhythm. The pons also connects the medulla with the other areas of the brain.
Conditions that can afflict the pons include central pontine myelinolysis, lesions, trauma, pons infarct, birth defects, and infection.
