Temporal Lobe: The temporal lobe is one of four paired functional sections or divisions of the cerebrum. The temporal lobe plays an important role in processing, feeling, and reacting to the senses of taste, smell, and hearing. The temporal lobe also is involved with memory storage and the thought process that happens before we speak. The temporal lobe includes the primary auditory cortex, olfactory areas, and the hippocampus.
Conditions that can afflict the temporal lobe include head trauma, complex febrile seizure, temporal lobe seizures, tumors, subdural hematoma, stroke, hemorrhage, and infection.
