A red, weeping, often crusted lesion of the nipple. Microscopically, it is characterized by malignant cells with large nuclei, prominent nucleoli, and abundant pale cytoplasm (Paget cells) infiltrating the epidermis. In almost every case of Paget's disease, an underlying breast carcinoma is found (usually in situ, or in situ and infiltrating ductal carcinoma). (Diagnostic Surgical Pathology, 3rd ed.) --2003
