Symptoms of Pick's disease can affect decision-making, language, emotion, personality, and behavior control. Symptoms of Pick's disease are very similar to symptoms of other types of dementia, especially Alzheimer's disease. However, in Pick's disease memory loss and mental impairment tends to occur later than they do in the development of Alzheimer's disease symptoms. Symptoms that tend to appear earlier in the development of Pick's disease than in Alzheimer's disease include personality changes, lack of inhibition, wandering, and a lack of behavior controls in such activities as eating and sex. In addition, symptoms of Pick's disease generally occur earlier in life (under 65 years of age) than symptoms of Alzheimer's disease.
Behavioral symptoms of Pick's disease include social withdrawal, poor judgement, impulsivity, restlessness, excessive interest in sex, mood swings, and decline in ability to function effectively in activities of daily living. Other symptoms include a general disregard for other people, a lack of hygiene, and compulsive behaviors, such as obsessive actions and hoarding behaviors.
Language problems can include difficulties in using and understanding language, such as finding the right words and forming and pronouncing words. As Pick's disease progresses, verbal communication may cease altogether. Symptoms also include difficulties with memory.
Physical symptoms can include stiffness, wasting away, and weakening (atrophy) of muscles. This can result in difficulties with moving, coordination, and in controlling urine.

Although the disease varies greatly in the way it affects individuals, there is a common core of symptoms among patients which may be present at different stages of the disease.
