Ferning test and Pregnancy

Introduction: Ferning test and Pregnancy

A ferning test may be performed on fluid that has leaked from the vagina during pregnancy in order to determine if it is amniotic fluid. During a ferning test, the fluid is placed on a glass slide, dried, and examined under a microscope. Amniotic fluid shows up under magnification as having a fernlike appearance.
