Kidney disease caused by tuberculosis. Tuberculosis is caused by bacteria (Mycobacterium tuberculosis) and is a disease that normally affects the lungs but it can affect many other body organs such as the kidney. The tuberculosis bacterium is initially inhaled into the lungs where it can then spread to other organs. Symptoms may not develop for many years, even decades, after the initial infection.
