Retinitis Pigmentosa 4: Retinitis pigmentosa is an inherited eye disorder characterized by progressive loss of peripheral vision and night vision difficulties that can cause central vision loss. There are a large number of genes linked to retinitis pigmentosa. Type 4 is linked to a genetic defect on chromosome 3q21-q24. There is no cure for the condition but complete loss of vision is considered uncommon for the disease
It is recommended that sunglasses be worn regularly to protect them from UV light
Regular screening should be undertaken to monitor for such things as cataracts
Research is still evaluating the benefits of vitamin A and DHA in slowing the progression of the condition
