Immunosuppression:
Risks to people with compromised immune systems.
Introduction:
People with reduced immune systems are at risk for numerous diseases.
Immune deficiency can arise as a medical condition,
such as HIV or other chronic illnesses.
Certain medications also reduce immune function
including immunosuppressants (their purpose is to reduce immune function),
transplant patients
and chemotherapy treatment for cancer.
The elderly and newborns are also considered at risk
with reduce immune function.
