Also called sarcoidosis, it is a disorder characterized by the formation of small inflammatory nodules (granulomas). The nodules can occur just about anywhere in the body but the lungs (lung sarcoidosis), skin (skin sarcoidosis) and lymph nodes are usually the most common locations. The age of onset is usually between 20 and 40. The cause is unknown but is believed to involve the immune system and the majority of cases disappear spontaneously within two years of the symptoms starting. ...more »
