Glossary for Scapuloperoneal myopathy

  • Clubfoot: Congenital foot birth deformity turning the foot inward
  • Foot drop: A condition which is characterized by the dropping of the foot due to a paralysis of the anterior muscles of the leg
  • Genetic Disease: Any disease that is handed down to oneself through the chromosomes of ones parents
  • Leg weakness: Muscle weakness of the leg
  • Limb conditions: Medical conditions affecting the upper or lower limbs.
  • Lower limb conditions: Any medical condition affecting the lower limbs, i.e. the legs, knees, feet, etc..
  • Muscle conditions: Any condition that affects the muscles of the body
  • Musculoskeletal conditions: Medical conditions affecting the musculoskeletal system of bones, muscles and related structures.
  • Myopathy: General name for any disease of the muscles.
  • Scapuloperoneal myopathy, MYH7-related: A dominantly inherited disorder involving muscle wasting and weakness that occurs mainly in the shoulder and lower leg muscles. It results from a defect in the MYH7 gene on chromosome 14q12.
  • Shoulder conditions: Any condition that affects the shoulder
  • Weak shoulder: Weakness affecting the shoulder joint or shoulder region
