Glossary for Sleep Apnea Syndromes

  • Acetazolamide -- Teratogenic Agent: Experimental studies on mice, rats and rabbits indicate that the use of Acetazolamide during pregnancy may cause various harmful effects on the fetus. The likelihood and severity of symptoms may be affected by the level of exposure and the stage of pregnancy that the exposure occurred at. The effect on human fetuses has not been conclusively determined.
  • Drowsiness: Excessive tiredness or sleepiness
  • Fatigue conditions: Medical conditions causing or characterized by fatigue (extreme tiredness or weakness).
  • Heart failure: Slow failure of the heart (cardiac insufficiency).
  • Respiratory conditions: Any condition that affects the respiratory system
  • Sleep disorders: Any disorder that affects ones sleep
  • Snoring: is the vibration of respiratory structures and the resulting sound, due to obstructed air movement during breathing while sleeping.
