Glossary for Spinal stenosis

  • Achondroplasia: A disorder characterized by problems with bone growth.
  • Aging: The medical conditions from getting older.
  • Ankylosing Spondylitis: Inflammation of spinal joints similar to rheumatoid arthritis.
  • Back conditions: A group of conditions that affect the back
  • Back pain: Pain from the back or spine.
  • Bladder conditions: Any condition affecting the bladder
  • Bowel problems: Symptoms affecting the bowel
  • Cauda equina syndrome: Is a neurological syndrome which occurs when a vertebral disc protrudes and compresses the spinal cord.
  • Fibromyalgia: A difficult to diagnose condition affecting the muscles and/or joints
  • Fluorosis: Excessive fluoride in the body
  • Foot conditions: Any condition that may affect the foot
  • Interstitial cystitis: A rare condition involving inflammatory disease of the bladder which progresses slowly.
  • Leg cramps: Leg pain that is caused by continuous muscle contractions
  • Leg numbness: Loss of feeling or sensation
  • Leg pain: Pain affecting the leg
  • Leg weakness: Muscle weakness of the leg
  • Multiple Sclerosis: Autoimmune attack on spinal nerves causing diverse and varying neural problems.
  • Musculoskeletal conditions: Medical conditions affecting the musculoskeletal system of bones, muscles and related structures.
  • Myositis: One of the underlying causes for muscle weakness/myopathy.
  • Osteoarthritis: Osteoarthritis is a chronic condition characterised by mechanical disrturbances due to degradation of joints. It is the most common form of arthritis, and the leading cause of chronic disability.
  • Paget's disease of bone: A chronic, slowly progressing bone disorder where the bone is destroyed rapidly and replaced by abnormal bone which is dense and fragile.
  • Pain: A feeling of suffering, agony, distress caused by the stimulation of pain fibres in the nervous system
  • Pain conditions: Diseases characterized by pain and pain-like symptoms.
  • Peripheral neuropathy: Peripheral neuropathy is the term for damage to nerves of the peripheral nervous system, which may be caused either by diseases of the nerve or from the side-effects of systemic illness.
  • Rheumatoid arthritis: Autoimmune form of arthritis usually in teens or young adults.
  • Spinal Cord Disorders: Any condition that affects the spinal cord
  • Spinal Cord Tumor: Cancer of the spinal cord or central nervous system.
  • Spinal conditions: Any condition that affects the spine
  • Spondylosis: Spinal degeneration of the discs or spinal joints
  • Stenosis: An abnormal narrowing of a duct or canal
