Sump Syndrome: A complication that can sometimes occur after an operation done to treat recurring stone disease. The surgery involves forming a connection between the common bile duct and the intestines. Sometimes a pit-like (sump) portion develops along the bile duct and this allows debris such as food to build up in a pit-like (sump) portion of the bile duct.
