Hematopathology is the laboratory study of blood and blood disorders. A hematopathologist is a pathologist who determines possible causes of blood diseases by studying blood and tissue specimens under a microscope and other technical instruments. The pathologist has the knowledge and skill to diagnose anemia, bleeding disorders, leukemia, and lymphoma. The pathologist also consults with the patientís physician to decide on a treatment based on the diagnosis.
