Glossary for Tension headache

  • Chronic tension headache: Chronic headache affecting the occiput of the head often due to overwork or stress.
  • Classic migraine: Migraine is a neurological disorder that generally involves repeated headaches. Some people also have nausea, vomiting, and other symptoms. Most people with migraines do not have any warning before it occurs. However, some people have a visual disturbance called an aura before the headache starts.
  • Cluster headache: Headache that occurs periodically, with active periods interrupted by spontaneous remissions.
  • Common Headache: Common headache that everyone occasionally gets.
  • Common migraine: Migraine headaches are recurrent headaches that may be unilateral or bilateral. Migraine headaches may occur with or without a prodrome. The aura of a migraine may consist of neurologic symptoms, such as dizziness, tinnitus, scotomas, photophobia, or visual scintillations (eg, bright zigzag lines).
  • Eye muscle strain: An eye disorder caused by strain on the eye muscles. The eyes become tired when being used intensely such as occurs when working on the computer, driving or reading, long periods of time straining to see in dim light or extremely bright lights. Eye refraction problems can also cause eye strain.

  • Headache: In medicine a headache or cephalalgia is a symptom of a number of different conditions of the head and sometimes neck. Some of the causes are benign while others are medical emergencies. It ranks among the most common pain complaints

  • Migraine: Chronic recurring headaches with or without a preceding aura.
  • Mountain sickness: Illness from poor adjustment to low oxygen at altitude.
  • Muscle contraction headache: Headache from tension or muscle contraction.

  • Nervous system conditions: Diseases affecting the nerves and the nervous system.
  • Pain conditions: Diseases characterized by pain and pain-like symptoms.
  • Post-traumatic headache: A condition characterized by a headache which is precipitated by trauma
  • Sleep deprivation: The condition of not getting enough sleep.
  • Stress: Emotional stress (sometimes refers to physical stress)
