Symptoms of tinea infections differ depending on the type of infection, severity of the infection and the area of the body affected.
Symptoms of athlete's foot include scaling and flaking of the skin and itching of the feet. The tinea infection that causes athlete's foot can spread from the skin to the toenails causing thick, yellowish toenails.
Symptoms of jock itch include itching of the groin area and a red scaly rash. It usually occurs in men. Symptoms of ringworm include red itchy area on the scalp, often in the shape of a ring. Hair loss may occur in the area affected by ringworm.
Bacterial cellulitis can be a complication of a tinea infections. A bacterial cellulitis, can be serious, especially for people with weakened immune systems, such as those with HIV/AIDS or those taking steroid medications or on chemotherapy.
