Breast scintigraphy: A breast scintigraphy is a type of nuclear imaging scan of the breasts that relies on emissions from a radioactive tracer substance (sestamibi) injected intravenously; cancer cells metabolize more of the tracer and will emit more radioactivity than non-diseased tissue. This test is suited for women with dense breasts not amenable to mammography.
