CSF smear: A CSF smear is a test to analyze the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) under a microscope to record its color and what kinds of cells are present; a very small amount is spread (smeared) onto a glass slide for microscopic evaluation. CSF is collected by lumbar puncture.
