Free tyrosine test: The free tyrosine test is a laboratory test used to measure the amount of the amino acid tyrosine in the blood and urine. A low level of tyrosine in newborns can indicate a defect in phenylalanine metabolism and possibly phenylketonuria, which is an inherited disease in which phenylalanine cannot be converted to tyrosine.
