Lactoferrin test: The lactoferrin test is a laboratory test used to measure the level of the iron-binding protein lactoferrin in a human stool sample. This test is intended to distinguish active inflammatory bowel disease (ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease) from (noninflammatory) irritable bowel syndrome and inactive ulcerative colitis.
