Nuclear scan of the pancreas

Nuclear scan of the pancreas: A nuclear scan of the pancreas is a functional image of the abdominal area following intravenous injection of a radioactive tracer substance; the substance is uniformly metabolized by normal cells, whereas diseased cells acquire the substance more readily. The increase in radioactivity is detected by a gamma-ray camera and generates an image that shows the diseased area.
