Hydrocortisone: A synthetic or semisynthetic analog of hydrocortisone with glucocorticoid and some mineralocorticoid activities. As a glucocorticoid receptor agonist, therapeutic hydrocortisone promotes protein catabolism gluconeogenesis, capillary wall stability, renal excretion of calcium, and suppresses immune and inflammatory responses.
