Symptoms of Uterine Cancer

Symptoms of Uterine Cancer: Introduction

The primary symptom of uterine cancer is abnormal vaginal bleeding. This can include any vaginal bleeding after menopause. In younger women who still menstruate, symptoms can include excessively heavy menstrual periods and/or vaginal bleeding between periods.

Other symptoms may include an unusual vaginal discharge that is watery and pink or blood-tinged. Vaginal discharge can also be brown in color and foul-smelling. Pelvic pain or cramping, similar to menstrual pain, may also occur. Symptoms can be similar to other conditions, such as cervical cancer or cervical polyps.

Women with uterine cancer may also experience rapidly growing fibroids and a feeling of fullness in the pelvic area....more about Uterine Cancer »

Article Excerpts About Symptoms of Uterine Cancer:

Uterine cancer usually occurs after menopause. But it may also occur around the time that menopause begins. Abnormal vaginal bleeding is the most common symptom of uterine cancer. Bleeding may start as a watery, blood-streaked flow that gradually contains more blood. Women should not assume that abnormal vaginal bleeding is part of menopause.

A woman should see her doctor if she has any of the following symptoms:

  • Unusual vaginal bleeding or discharge

  • Difficult or painful urination

  • Pain during intercourse

  • Pain in the pelvic area

These symptoms can be caused by cancer or other less serious conditions. Most often they are not cancer, but only a doctor can tell for sure. (Source: excerpt from What You Need To Know About Cancer of the Uterus: NCI)
