Glossary for Uterine leiomyoma

  • Adenomyosis: A rare disorder where the endometrium (lining of the uterus) grows inside the muscle walls of the uterus. The condition is generally harmless but can be very painful.
  • Benign tumor: A tumor or growth that remains localized; not always harmless.
  • Bladder conditions: Any condition affecting the bladder
  • Chromosome 12 ring syndrome: A rare chromosomal disorder where genetic material from one or both ends of chromosome 12 is missing and the two broken ends have rejoined to form a ring. The resulting type and severity of symptoms is determined by the amount and location of genetic material missing.
  • Endometrial Cancer: Cancer of the endometrium (uterus lining).
  • Endometriosis: Misplaced uterus tissue causing scar tissue.
  • Endometritis: Inflammation of the endometrium (uterine lining)
  • Female genital organ tumors: Tumors affecting the female genital organs, whether cancerous or bening.
  • Female infertility: Infertility that affects the female
  • Leiomyosarcoma: A rare soft tissue cancer that arises from smooth muscle cells which form the involuntary muscles. Smooth muscle cells can occur in the skin, uterus, stomach, intestine and blood vessel walls. The main location for these tumors is in the uterus, retroperitoneum, pelvis and large blood vessels such as the inferior vena cava. Symptoms depend on the size and location of the tumor.
  • Menorrhagia: Excessive menstrual bleeding
  • Menstrual irregularities: Any condition that is associated with the female menstrual cycle
  • Ovarian Cancer: Cancer of the ovaries.
  • Pelvic conditions: Any medical condition affecting the pelvic region.
  • Polyp: An growth or protrusion that extends from a mucous membrane
  • Pregnancy: The condition of supporting a fetus from conception till birth.
  • Premenstrual syndrome: Condition with cyclic symptoms related to menstruation.
  • Sexual Conditions: Any condition that affects sexual function
  • Subfertility: A condition which is characterized by a less that normal ability to reproduce
  • Urogenital tumors: Any tumor of the urinary or genital organs, whether cancerous or benign.
  • Uterus conditions: Any condition that affects the female uterus
  • Women-only conditions: Conditions affecting women (females), but not males.
  • Womens health conditions: Medical conditions related to women's health.
