Glossary for Aarskog-Ose-Pande syndrome

  • Bone conditions: Conditions that affect the bones
  • Clinodactyly: Curving of the fifth finger towards the fourth finger.
  • Eye and vision conditions: Medical conditions affecting the eyes or the vision systems.
  • Hair conditions: Any disorder the affects the hair
  • Hair loss: Loss or thinning of head or body hair
  • Intrauterine Growth Retardation: Slowly growing fetus in the womb during pregnancy
  • Joint hypermobility: Increased movement of the joints with a predisposition to being dislocated.
  • Lipid metabolism conditions: Disorders affecting the metabolism of lipids (blood fats), including cholesterol.
  • Lipodystrophy: A rare group of disorders that can be acquired or inherited and involves adipose tissue abnormalities. The disorder is characterized by varying degrees of loss of body fat. The three forms of the condition are: total lipodystrophy, partial lipodystrophy and localized lipodystrophy.
  • Musculoskeletal conditions: Medical conditions affecting the musculoskeletal system of bones, muscles and related structures.
  • Rieger Syndrome: A rare genetic disorder characterized by underdeveloped or absent teeth and craniofacial and eye abnormalities.
  • SHORT Syndrome: A very rare disorder characterized by short stature, low birth weight and loss of skin fat. SHORT is an acronym for short stature, hyperextensible joints and/or hernia, ocular depression, Reiger anomaly and teething delay.
