Glossary for Alcohol -- Teratogenic Agent

  • Alcoholic liver disease: Alcoholic liver disease is the major cause of liver disease in Western countries, (in Asian countries, viral hepatitis is the major cause). It arises from the excessive ingestion of alcohol.
  • Arm deformity: Malformation or distortion of the arm.
  • Benign Prostate Hyperplasia: Non-cancerous prostrate enlargement common with aging
  • Cancer: Abnormal overgrowth of body cells.
  • Chronic diarrhea: Chronic diarrhea is long-term, ongoing lose, watery and frequent stools.
  • Cluster headache: Headache that occurs periodically, with active periods interrupted by spontaneous remissions.
  • Colorectal cancer: Cancer of the colon (bowel) or rectum.
  • Diabetic Diarrhea: Diarrhea that occurs in diabetics as a result of the damage done by diabetes to the digestive system. Digestive system damage is caused by intestinal neuropathy (damage to intestinal nerves) or bacterial overgrowth or both.
  • Drowning: Accidental loss of life due to water.
  • Drug-related conditions: Medical conditions related to drug usage, including adverse reactions, intoxication, and overdose.
  • Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease: Repeated reflux of stomach acid into the throat.
  • Headache: In medicine a headache or cephalalgia is a symptom of a number of different conditions of the head and sometimes neck. Some of the causes are benign while others are medical emergencies. It ranks among the most common pain complaints

  • Hepatoma: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a primary malignancy of the liver.
  • Hypertension: High blood pressure
  • Impotence: Inability to attain or sustain an erection.
  • Insomnia: Insomnia is defined as repeated difficulty with the initiation, duration, maintenance, or quality of sleep that occurs despite adequate time and opportunity for sleep that results in some form of daytime impairment.
  • Lactose Intolerance: Lactose intolerance is the inability to metabolize lactose, a sugar found in milk and other dairy products, because the required enzyme lactase is absent in the intestinal system or its availability is lowered.
  • Leukeran -- Teratogenic Agent: There is evidence to indicate that exposure to Leukeran (a chemotherapy drug) during pregnancy may have a teratogenic effect on the fetus. A teratogen is a substance that can cause birth defects. The likelihood and severity of defects may be affected by the level of exposure and the stage of pregnancy that the exposure occurred at.
  • Peptic Ulcer: Ulcer on the lining of the stomach or duodenum
  • Poisoning: The condition produced by poison
  • Pregnancy-related conditions: Any condition that is related to or caused by pregnancy
  • Sialadenitis: Salivary gland inflammation due to obstruction of the salivary gland or a duct.
  • Stomach cancer: Stomach or gastric cancer can develop in any part of the stomach and may spread throughout the stomach and to other organs
  • Teratogen-related conditions: Medical conditions related to "teratogens", i.e. substances that can cause birth defects by fetal exposure.
  • Ventricular septal defect: An abnormal connection between the 2 lower chambers (ventricles) of the heart.
  • Youth risk behavior: Risky behaviors common in young people
  • Youth risk behaviour: Where youths are prone to undertaking risky behaviour
