Glossary for Bruyn-Scheltens syndrome

  • Alpers Syndrome: A rare syndrome characterized by liver disease, seizures and progressive, episodic psychomotor retardation.
  • Arena syndrome: A rare disorder characterized by mental retardation, spastic paraplegia and iron deposits in part of the brain that controls movement (basal ganglia).
  • Arm weakness: Weakness of the muscles of the arm.
  • Foot conditions: Any condition that may affect the foot
  • Hand conditions: Any condition that affects the hand
  • Leg weakness: Muscle weakness of the leg
  • Limb conditions: Medical conditions affecting the upper or lower limbs.
  • Muscle atrophy: Decrease in size and bulk of muscle.
  • Muscle conditions: Any condition that affects the muscles of the body
  • Muscle rigidity: The occurrence of resistance to passively moving a muscle
  • Musculoskeletal conditions: Medical conditions affecting the musculoskeletal system of bones, muscles and related structures.
  • Spasticity: Continuous contraction or stiffness of muscles.
