Glossary for Cat Eye Syndrome

  • Anorectal disorders: Conditions that affect the anorectum
  • Chromosome 22 Ring: A rare chromosomal disorder where genetic material from one or both ends of chromosome 22 is missing and the two broken ends have rejoined to form a ring. The resulting type and severity of symptoms is determined by the amount and location of genetic material missing.
  • Cleft palate: Birth defect of lip and mouth.
  • Coloboma of iris: A hole in the iris (colored part of the eye) of the eye. The defect may be inherited or caused by surgery or injury to the eye. The severity of symptoms is determined by the size of the defect.
  • Congenital conditions: Any condition that you are born with such as birth defects or genetic diseases.
  • Congenital conditions -- physical defects: Congenital (birth) defects causing a physical structure defect (rather than metabolic).
  • Digestive Diseases: Diseases that affect the digestive system
  • Down-slanting palpebral fissures: Down-slanting palpebral fissures is a term that refers to down-slanting of the space between the eyelids.
  • Eye and vision conditions: Medical conditions affecting the eyes or the vision systems.
  • Genetic Disease: Any disease that is handed down to oneself through the chromosomes of ones parents
  • Hallermann-Streiff Syndrome: A condition which affects stature, head shape and hair growth

  • Mental retardation: A very rare syndrome characterized mainly by mental retardation, hypogonadism, diabetes and facial and skull abnormalities.
  • Otodental dysplasia: A very rare syndrome characterized mainly by ear and tooth abnormalities. The back teeth are large and have bulbous crowns without the normal grooves and features.
  • Scoliosis: Sideways curvature of the spine
  • Wide-set eyes: A condition where the eyes are wider apart than normal.
  • Zunich neuroectodermal syndrome: A very rare genetic syndrome characterized by a range of symptoms such as colobomas of the eye, heart defects, ichthyosiform dermatosis, mental retardation and ear defects.
