Glossary for Central Pain Syndrome

  • Aching pain: severe pain in the body
  • Brain conditions: Medical conditions that affect the brain
  • Burning pain: The occurrence of pain that feels like burning
  • Chronic pain: Ongoing pain of any type
  • Epilepsy: Brain condition causing seizures or spasms.
  • Multiple Sclerosis: Autoimmune attack on spinal nerves causing diverse and varying neural problems.
  • Nortriptyline -- Teratogenic Agent: There is evidence to indicate that exposure to Nortriptyline during pregnancy may have a teratogenic effect on the fetus. A teratogen is a substance that can cause birth defects. The likelihood and severity of defects may be affected by the level of exposure and the stage of pregnancy that the exposure occurred at.
  • Pain: A feeling of suffering, agony, distress caused by the stimulation of pain fibres in the nervous system
  • Pain conditions: Diseases characterized by pain and pain-like symptoms.
  • Parkinson's Disease: Degenerative brain condition characterised by tremor.
  • Stroke: Serious brain event from bleeding or blood clots.
  • Tumor: Any type of lump or swelling (not just cancers)
