Glossary for Cytomegalovirus -- Teratogenic Agent

  • Conditions involving a pathogen: Medical conditions involving some type of pathogen, such as a virus or bacteria.
  • Cytomegalovirus: A easily transmissible viral infection that is common but generally causes no symptoms except in infants and people with weakened immune systems.
  • Eye symptoms: Symptoms affecting the eye
  • Flu-like conditions: Medical conditions similar to flu, or exhibition flu-like symptoms.
  • Hearing loss: A very rare condition described in two sisters. It is characterized by vision and hearing problems and incoordination.
  • Leukeran -- Teratogenic Agent: There is evidence to indicate that exposure to Leukeran (a chemotherapy drug) during pregnancy may have a teratogenic effect on the fetus. A teratogen is a substance that can cause birth defects. The likelihood and severity of defects may be affected by the level of exposure and the stage of pregnancy that the exposure occurred at.
  • Poor growth: Poor body growth or delayed physical development.
  • Pregnancy-related conditions: Any condition that is related to or caused by pregnancy
  • Primary Herpes Infection -- Teratogenic Agent: There is evidence to indicate that the use of primary Herpes Infection during pregnancy may cause a teratogenic effect on the fetus. A teratogen is a substance that can cause birth defects. The likelihood and severity of defects may be affected by the level of exposure and the stage of pregnancy that the exposure occurred at.
  • Teratogen-related conditions: Medical conditions related to "teratogens", i.e. substances that can cause birth defects by fetal exposure.
  • Viral diseases: Any disease that is caused by a virus
