Glossary for Darier Disease

  • Acrokeratosis verruciformis of Hopf: A rare inherited skin disorder characterized by skin-colored wart-like lumps on the backs of the hands and feet as well as the forearms and legs.
  • Blisters: Blistering of the skin.
  • Diastrophic dysplasia: A rare genetic disorder characterized by short stature as well as skeletal, spine and ear abnormalities.
  • Ichthyosis: Fish-like scaly dry skin areas
  • Keratosis follicularis -- dwarfism -- cerebral atrophy: A very rare syndrome characterized mainly by dwarfism, brain degeneration and a hair follicle disorder.
  • Leuconychia: A white discoloration of the nails.
  • Nail conditions: Any condition that affects the nail
  • Palmoplantar Keratoderma: A rare group of disorders where the skin of the palms and soles is thicker than normal. The thickening may occur in small localized areas of the palms and soles or it may occur over the whole surface.
  • Skin conditions: Any condition that affects the skin
  • Tretinoin -- Teratogenic Agent: There is evidence to indicate that exposure to Tretinoin during pregnancy may have a teratogenic effect on the fetus. A teratogen is a substance that can cause birth defects. The likelihood and severity of defects may be affected by the level of exposure and the stage of pregnancy that the exposure occurred at.
