Ectopic pregnancy can be life threatening

Ectopic pregnancy is one of the leading causes of death in the 1st trimester. Physicians must not depend only on the physical symptoms alone and an ultrasound must be done in a female patient of child bearing age presenting with acute abdominal pain, vaginal bleeding. Due to the acute onset of pain it may be misdiagnosed as renal colic, acute appendicitis or ovarian torsion. Early diagnosis can save the patients life.
