Ross river fever an epidemic polyarthritic condition

Ross river fever is prevalent in mosquito prone areas and in tropical regions. It can occur in all age groups but presents most commonly between 20- 30 years of age. The patient complains of polyarthritis, myalgia and headache. it is often misdiagnosed as a rubella, hepatitis- B, Barmah Forest virus, dengue and rheumatoid arthritis. Most cases experience resolution of the symptoms in 2- 4 weeks. Treatment is symptomatic with bed rest and analgesics.
