Glossary for Familial amyloid polyneuropathy

  • Familial polyposis -- classical: An inherited condition where polyps develop in the lining of the gastrointestinal tract. The polyps are initially benign but may become malignant if untreated.
  • Foot ulcer: A skin ulcer that is located on the foot
  • Genetic Disease: Any disease that is handed down to oneself through the chromosomes of ones parents
  • Metabolic disorders: Disorders that affect the metabolic system in human
  • Nervous system conditions: Diseases affecting the nerves and the nervous system.
  • Neuropathy: Peripheral neuropathy is the term for damage to nerves of the peripheral nervous system, which may be caused either by diseases of the nerve or from the side-effects of systemic illness.
  • Polyneuropathy: Dysfunction and/or damage to neurons, causing a loss of sensory or motor function.
  • Sensory conditions: Medical conditions affecting the sensory system, especially the sense of touch.
