Glossary for Fucosidosis

  • Angiokeratoma: A harmless, discolored, raised skin lesion involving damaged blood capillaries. The lesion ranges in color from red to blue and the skin involved is usually thickened.
  • Congenital conditions: Any condition that you are born with such as birth defects or genetic diseases.
  • Congenital metabolic disorders: Congenital (birth) defects affecting any metabolic systems.
  • Cystic Fibrosis: Cystic fibrosis is a hereditary disease affecting the exocrine (mucus) glands of the lungs, liver, pancreas, and intestines, causing progressive disability due to multisystem failure.
  • Face symptoms: Symptoms affecting the face
  • Genetic Disease: Any disease that is handed down to oneself through the chromosomes of ones parents
  • Metabolic disorders: Disorders that affect the metabolic system in human
  • Psychomotor retardation: Psychomotor retardation refers to a slowing of physical movement and speech and activity caused by a mental health or emotional condition, such as depression.
  • Sialidosis: A condition also known as cherry red spot myoclonus syndrome
  • Spasticity: Continuous contraction or stiffness of muscles.
  • Spondyloepiphyseal dysplasia: A rare bone growth disorder affecting the spine and ends of bones and resulting in short stature.
  • Tremor: Involuntary trembling most commonly of the hands.
