Glossary for Hereditary sensory and autonomic neuropathy 3

  • Corneal ulceration: Ulceration of the corneal epithelium.
  • Excessive sweating: A condition which is characterized by an abnormal excess of sweating
  • Familial dysautonomia: An inherited biochemical disorder that primarily affects the autonomic and sensory nervous system.
  • Genetic Disease: Any disease that is handed down to oneself through the chromosomes of ones parents
  • Hyperpigmentation: Excess skin pigment or coloration
  • Kyphosis: Outward curvature of the spine at the back causing hunching or Dowager's hump
  • Limb conditions: Medical conditions affecting the upper or lower limbs.
  • Mental retardation: A very rare syndrome characterized mainly by mental retardation, hypogonadism, diabetes and facial and skull abnormalities.
  • Nervous system conditions: Diseases affecting the nerves and the nervous system.
  • Neuropathy: Peripheral neuropathy is the term for damage to nerves of the peripheral nervous system, which may be caused either by diseases of the nerve or from the side-effects of systemic illness.
  • Pneumonia: Infection of the lung by bacteria, viruses or fungus.
  • Scoliosis: Sideways curvature of the spine
  • Sensory conditions: Medical conditions affecting the sensory system, especially the sense of touch.
