Glossary for Juvenile gout

  • Arthritis-like conditions: Medical conditions highly related to or similar to arthritis.
  • Child health conditions: Any medical conditions typically afflicting children.
  • Death: The cessation of life
  • Gout: Painful joints, most commonly the big toe.
  • Gouty arthritis: Joint pain and inflammation (arthritis) caused by gout (buildup of urate crystals). The big toe is most commonly affected but other joints may also be affected e.g. foot, ankle, elbow, wrist, knee and fingers. Usually only one joint is affected at a time. The condition is most often seen in older men.
  • Kidney failure: Total failure of the kidneys to filter waste
  • Musculoskeletal conditions: Medical conditions affecting the musculoskeletal system of bones, muscles and related structures.
  • Nephropathy familial with hyperuricemia: A rare inherited kidney disease characterized by early onset of gout, kidney failure and high blood uric acid level and low urine uric acid level. The uric acid level abnormalities are due to the kidneys reduced ability to excrete it into the urine.
  • Pain conditions: Diseases characterized by pain and pain-like symptoms.
  • Rheumatic conditions: Any condition that affects ones joints
