Glossary for Louse-borne diseases

  • Adenopathy: Enlarged lymph nodes which may be caused by local or generalised infection, inflammatory conditions, malignancy or more unusual disorders.
  • Bites, stings and other animal-related conditions: Medical conditions caused by animals, such as bites and stings.
  • Conditions involving a pathogen: Medical conditions involving some type of pathogen, such as a virus or bacteria.
  • Fever: Elevation of the body temperature above the normal 37 degrees celsius
  • Head lice: Small lice infesting the hair and head.
  • Insect-borne diseases: Any disease that is carried by insects and transmitted to humans
  • Lice: A parasitic insect that can infect humans
  • Pruritus: The sensation of itch
  • Pubic lice: Lice in pubic area that are spread sexually.
  • Scabies: Mite infection of the skin common in institutions.
  • Typhus: A general name for various arthropod-borne rickettsial infections
  • Zoonotic Diseases: When a condition is transmitted through a zoonotic organisms
