Glossary for Megaduodenum and/or megacystis

  • Abdominal conditions: Medical conditions affecting the abdominal region.
  • Abdominal pain: A condition which is characterized by the sensation of pain that is located in the abdomen
  • Constipation: Difficult or dry bowel movements
  • Diarrhea: Loose or watery stool.

  • Familial visceral myopathy: A rare condition where the duodenum is dilated and the muscles don't function normally which affects the movement of digestive waste material through the intestines. The symptoms of the condition are similar to that caused by an intestinal obstruction.

  • Intestinal pseudo-obstruction: A digestive disorder where the intestines are unable to contract normally and push food through the digestive system. This results in symptoms similar to an obstruction and hence the name pseudo-obstruction. The walls of the affected gastrointestinal tract becomes thin and the muscles that control its motion start to degenerate.
  • Nausea: The queasy feeling of nausea and often also vomiting.
  • No symptoms: The absence of noticable symptoms.
  • Vomiting: Vomiting or retching symptoms.
