Mycobacterium avium complex refers to infection by three organisms of bacteria within the Mycobacterium genus, Mycobacterium avium, Mycobacterium intracellulare, and $Mycobacterium avium sub paratuberculosis (MAP)$.

MAC has been on the rise since the advent of AIDS because these patients become susceptible to such infections.
