Ibotenate: 3-hydroxy-5-isoxazole alpha-aminoacetate, an excitatory aminoacid agonist for certain quisqualate-sensitive glutamate receptors in the brain; it is a neurotoxin that selectively ablates neuronal cell bodies while sparing axonal projections.
