Glossary for Neuralgia

  • Chronic pelvic pain:
  • Common peroneal nerve dysfunction: A condition resulting from damage to the peroneal nerve which branches from the sciatic nerve and allows for movement and sensation in the lower legs and feet. Damage to the nerve can be caused by knee injury or trauma, lower leg bone fracture, constriction of the lower leg or even persistent crossing of the legs.
  • Food Additive Adverse reaction -- chocolate: An intolerance to chocolate is an adverse reaction (not an immune response) by the body to chocolate. The adverse reaction results from the body's inability to metabolize the food. The amount of chocolate required to trigger the onset of symptoms and the nature and severity of symptoms may vary considerably between patients.

  • Glossopharyngeal neuralgia: A condition which is characterized by sever pain that originates on the side of the throat and extends to the ear
  • Intercostal neuralgia: Nerve pain affecting the ribs
  • Nerve symptoms: Symptoms affecting the nerves
  • Nervous system conditions: Diseases affecting the nerves and the nervous system.
  • Neuralgia: Pain associated with a particular nerve.
  • Neuritis: Inflammation of a nerve.
  • Occipital Neuralgia: Chronic pain from injury to the scalp nerve.
  • Pain conditions: Diseases characterized by pain and pain-like symptoms.
  • Peripheral neuritis: A condition characterized by inflammation of the peripheral nerves
  • Postherpetic neuralgia: A condition which is characterized by persistent burning pain and hyperesthesia along the distribution of a cutaneous nerve
  • Sciatica: Sciatica is a set of symptoms including pain that may be caused by general compression and/or irritation of one of five nerve roots that give rise to the sciatic nerve, or by compression or irritation of the sciatic nerve itself.
  • Trigeminal neuralgia: Trigeminal neuralgia is a very painful inflammation of the nerve (trigeminal nerve) that delivers sensations to the face and "surface" of the eye.
