Glossary for Neurofibromatosis Type 1 (NF-1)

  • Benign tumor: A tumor or growth that remains localized; not always harmless.
  • Genetic Disease: Any disease that is handed down to oneself through the chromosomes of ones parents
  • Nervous system conditions: Diseases affecting the nerves and the nervous system.
  • Neurofibroma: A benign tumor that originates from nerve cells. The tumors usually arise from nerves in the skin or just under the skin.
  • Neurological system tumors: Tumors of the nerves or neurological system, whether cancerous or benign.
  • Skin Cancer: Cancer of the skin; the most common type of cancer.
  • Skin conditions: Any condition that affects the skin
  • Skin spots: The occurrence of spots that are located on the skin
  • Skin symptoms: Symptoms affecting the skin.
