Glossary for Neuropathic pain

  • Burning pain: The occurrence of pain that feels like burning
  • Central Pain Syndrome: Central pain syndrome is a neurological condition caused by damage to or dysfunction of the central nervous system (CNS), which includes the brain, brainstem, and spinal cord.
  • Chronic pain: Ongoing pain of any type
  • Diabetic neuropathy: Nerve damage from diabetes affecting any body part; most commonly feet.
  • Fibromyalgia: A difficult to diagnose condition affecting the muscles and/or joints
  • Nervous system conditions: Diseases affecting the nerves and the nervous system.
  • Neuropathy: Peripheral neuropathy is the term for damage to nerves of the peripheral nervous system, which may be caused either by diseases of the nerve or from the side-effects of systemic illness.
  • Numbness: Loss of feeling or sensation
  • Pain: A feeling of suffering, agony, distress caused by the stimulation of pain fibres in the nervous system
  • Pain conditions: Diseases characterized by pain and pain-like symptoms.
  • Peripheral neuropathy: Peripheral neuropathy is the term for damage to nerves of the peripheral nervous system, which may be caused either by diseases of the nerve or from the side-effects of systemic illness.
  • Postherpetic neuralgia: A condition which is characterized by persistent burning pain and hyperesthesia along the distribution of a cutaneous nerve
  • Reflex sympathetic dystrophy syndrome: A condition characterized by pain and reduced range of motion in the shoulder and hand of the affected arm.
  • Shooting pain: shooting pain is caused by irritation or damage to a nerve
  • Tingling: Tingling, prickling, or pins-and-needles sensations
