Glossary for Neuropathy, Hereditary Sensory and Autonomic Type I

  • Footdrop: A condition which is characterized by the dropping of the foot due to a paralysis of the anterior muscles of the leg
  • Genetic Disease: Any disease that is handed down to oneself through the chromosomes of ones parents
  • Nervous system conditions: Diseases affecting the nerves and the nervous system.
  • Neuropathy: Peripheral neuropathy is the term for damage to nerves of the peripheral nervous system, which may be caused either by diseases of the nerve or from the side-effects of systemic illness.
  • Sensory conditions: Medical conditions affecting the sensory system, especially the sense of touch.
  • Shooting pain: shooting pain is caused by irritation or damage to a nerve
  • Ulcer: A local defect in the mucosa
  • Wound Infection: Infection of a skin wound.
