Glossary for NOMID syndrome

  • Chronic meningitis: Chronic meningitis is an inflammation of the meninges with subacute onset and persisting cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) abnormalities lasting for at least one month.
  • Congenital conditions: Any condition that you are born with such as birth defects or genetic diseases.
  • Deafness: Inability to hear sounds.
  • Fever: Elevation of the body temperature above the normal 37 degrees celsius
  • Genetic Disease: Any disease that is handed down to oneself through the chromosomes of ones parents
  • Jacobs syndrome: A very rare syndrome characterized mainly by heart inflammation (pericardium), joint disease and permanent finger flexion. The number of joints affected is variable.
  • Joint pain: Pain affecting the joints
  • Learning disabilities: Various developmental problems impairing learning or schooling.
  • Mental retardation: A very rare syndrome characterized mainly by mental retardation, hypogonadism, diabetes and facial and skull abnormalities.
  • Musculoskeletal conditions: Medical conditions affecting the musculoskeletal system of bones, muscles and related structures.
  • Nervous system conditions: Diseases affecting the nerves and the nervous system.
  • Non-pathogenic inflammatory conditions: Medical disorders that cause inflammation, but are not due to any infectious pathogen.
  • Optic nerve disorder: Any condition which impairs the function of the optic nerve. Examples of such conditions includes glaucoma, optic nerve inflammation and impaired blood supply to the optic nerve.
  • Poor feeding: Poor feeding (mostly in infants)
  • Poor growth: Poor body growth or delayed physical development.
  • Rheumatic conditions: Any condition that affects ones joints
  • Skin conditions: Any condition that affects the skin
  • Urticaria: A vascular reaction of the upper dermis that is marked by elevated patches
  • Viral meningitis: Viral meningitis refers to meningitis caused by a viral infection
  • Vision changes: Any change in vision or sight.
